Sri Lankan to give 65,000 houses to war hit people

The Sri Lankan government has announced its plan to build 65,000 houses for families that were affected by the civil war. These houses will be built in the Northern and Eastern provinces. The total requirement of houses in these provinces is 1,37,529. The number of people displaced due to the Eelam war, who have yet to be settled is estimated to be around 44,934. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met in New York and discussed this issue. The Indian government will also be funding in this project.

General knowledge dose- the Sri Lankan civil war, also known as the Eelam war was a 26 year long armed conflict between the government and the militant organization LTTE. The LTTE demanded an independent Tamil state called Tamil Elam. The war lasted from 1983 to 2009 with the death of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
